About the Sacred Corridor
What is the Sacred Corridor?
Located within the Cooper River Historic District, the Sacred Corridor is a collection of nationally recognized churches and cemeteries that collectively represent much of South Carolina’s rich and diverse religious history. The protection and preservation of this still-pristine land and its historic religious landmarks will allow future generations to experience the natural beauty of South Carolina as it was at the dawn of the colonial era. More importantly, the Sacred Corridor will be an active and engaging place where those future generations will learn how faith sustained and bound these diverse communities through hundreds of years of South Carolina history.
Purpose
The Berkeley County Sacred Corridor preserves, promotes, and protects these important landmarks and their heritage because of their inestimable value to the Public Good and to the study of religious faith in the state’s history.
